TRANSCRIPT: Rep. Jamie Raskin

SCENE: Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo runs into Rep. Jamie Raskin on the steps of the Capitol after he cast one of his last votes ahead of November’s elections.

Matt Laslo: “Are you worried about a return of Bush v. Gore, or Bush v. Gore redux?”

Jamie Raskin: “I mean, you know, Democrats have two main objectives, and one is to go out and win the election and the second is to defend the election.”

ML: “Uh-huh?”

JR: “And we understand that Donald Trump thinks he's on a winning streak in the Supreme Court — the justices he named overturned abortion rights in Roe v. Wade. They pulled a rabbit out of a hat and invented a new doctrine of presidential immunity from prosecution. And undoubtedly, he thinks that the Supreme Court will save him from the fact that he doesn't have anything remotely resembling a real presidential campaign.”

A few reporters had been waiting in the wings for Laslo to finish interviewing Raskin.

ML: “I’ll leave you to my colleagues.”

Reporter: “Mr. Raskin!”

ML: “Thank you, sir.”
