Ask a Pol asks:

Are you worried about secure voting in the 2024 election?

Key Lawler:

“But the reality over the long haul is that our elections are secure,” Rep. Mike Lawler tells the congressional press corps. “I think, obviously, in 2020, you had issues in certain states where governors by executive fiat or the courts were overriding the legislature and state constitution. TRANSCRIPT: Rep. Mike Lawler

SCENE: A gaggle of reporters pepper Rep. Mike Lawler with questions on the Capitol steps after he cast one of his last votes ahead of November’s elections.

Mike Lawler: “But I do think our elections, by and large, are secure, but there are some setbacks. For instance, two years ago, the Democrats tried to run somebody against me who happened to actually live in New Jersey and voted in New Jersey and New York at the same time. And we had all the information, presented it, that candidate quickly withdrew.”

Reporter: “And the physical security?”

Mike Lawler: “No, it does happen. But the reality over the long haul is that our elections are secure. I think, obviously, in 2020, you had issues in certain states where governors by executive fiat or the courts were overriding the legislature and state constitution, and obviously, that shouldn't happen and they should abide by their election laws throughout the country. But at the end of the day, this will be determined by the American people, I’m confident in that. And I will respect the results no matter who wins and I will certify the election.”
